About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Executive Director, you will be responsible for delivering an exceptional dining experience to Retirement Suites by the Lake residents by managing all aspects of the kitchen & dining room.  You will provide an efficient, effective and reliable food service, 3 meals a day for nearly 100 residents.

Specifically, your duties will include (but will not be limited to):

This position will require 2-3 Cooking shifts per week.  

All managers rotate weekend coverage as Manager on Duty. 

  • Providing culinary excellence and excellent dining experience for our residents.
  • Providing a nutritionally balanced meal service;
  • Planning of weekly menus
  • Consulting with residents regarding dietary needs;
  • Leading dietary Council Meetings with residents to receive feedback
  • Leadership, Supervision & Training for both kitchen and serving staff and adhering to food and safety standards at all times;

  • Ordering and inventory control in line with budget compliance
  • Adhering to RHA standards.

Our Ideal Candidate

To be successful in this position, you have progressive experience as a Head Chef within a high volume environment and hold a solid understanding of dietary requirements and nutritional values of food. 

Ideally, you have experience within a retirement community; however candidates with a catering/banquet or restaurant background are also encouraged to apply. Your experience with human resource management, particularly leading unionized staff, is something we value.
Importantly, we are looking for a strong, concise leader who can lead by example to inspire and engage a team of people. With a proactive and positive attitude, you will be self-motivated and organized in order to ensure the efficient running of the kitchen, whilst still making yourself available to listen to any concerns from your team.

This role would be well-suited to someone who has some experience working as a Manager, and Cook in a Retirement setting, who is experienced at creating fresh menus and is looking for a change of pace.

Your commitment to cleanliness, quality and profitability, including your ability to manage budgets and menu plans effectively, will be key to your success in this role.
