Recreation Manager
Hours: Typical hours are 9:00 am- 5:00pm, around 40 hours a week
Requires some flexibility on evenings and weekends based on events and special occasions
Position Summary:
We are searching for an energetic, experienced program and volunteer coordinator for this full time management role which reports directly to the Executive Director. You will meet with residents to assess their recreational needs & interests. Then, you will be responsible for the development, promotion, and implementation of creative, innovative and meaningful recreation programs and special events based on the dimensions of wellness and our residents’ needs. You will commit to recruit, orient, train, assign and recognize the team members, volunteers and co-op students as integral parts of the program. It is also imperative that you work closely with all team members and volunteers to develop and coach a cohesive approach to running successful recreational programs and team meetings.
Requirements:
- Post-secondary education Diploma in Recreation Therapy, Recreation and Leisure or equivalent is a requirement
- Proven related experience a requirement
- Prior leadership experience
- Valid G license with clean drivers abstract
- Current criminal reference check including vulnerable sector screen
- SmartServe certification required prior to start
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and technology a requirement
Key Qualifications:
- Experience in memory care programming an asset
- Certification in behavioral training courses such as GPA, P.I.E.C.E.S, or DementiAbilities
- First Aid and CPR-C an asset
- Ability to demonstrate leadership while motivating team members and volunteers to become genuinely involved in activities
- Ability to make decisions and creatively problem solve while respecting the residents' choices and following policies and procedures
- Demonstrate strong organizational, flexibility, coordination and planning skills
- Fostering good relationships and maintaining good communication with residents, caregivers, volunteers, team members and community partners
- Experience in volunteer motivation and management
- Ability to effectively read, write and communicate in English
- Demonstration of a caring and compassionate attitude while working with team members, residents, volunteers and external community participants.
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekend, & scheduled manager on duty shifts (one in eight weekends).
