Unscheduled. Weekdays and weekends; Casual call ins and vacation coverage
About the Role
The Laundry team member at Applewood Retirement Residence is a key member of the team. They are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the home, ensuring that visitors, residents, and families have a pleasant and safe environment to live and work in.
- Collect and sort soiled linens.
- Collect and sort resident's personal laundry if applicable.
- Performs stain removal procedures.
- Fills the washing machines and dryers as required so as to maximize equipment.
- Folds linens and personal clothing.
- Clothing or linens in need of repair/replacement is communicated to the appropriate person for completion of task.
- Delivers residents' personal laundry and linens.
- Uses chemical supplies according to directions and observes all safety requirements.
- Cleans equipment and work area daily, and reports maintenance needs to supervisor.
- Follow job routines and instructions according to the daily schedule.
- Understand WHMIS and the importance of keeping all cleaning materials under close watch at all times.
- Flexible with other duties assigned.
- Maintain confidentiality of all facility information.
Qualifications:
- Previous laundry experience in a long-term care setting, preferably a retirement home.
- Exhibits a caring and nurturing attitude while demonstrating true concern for the residents they support.
- Ability to relate to all levels of staff, residents, and their families, volunteers with a high degree of patience, tolerance, and confidentiality.
- Good communication skills both oral and written
- Possess initiative and the ability to make responsible choices that support resident’s best interest.
- Knowledge of WHMIS and the importance of keeping all cleaning materials under close watch at all times.
- Ability to manage priorities, time and multi-task
- Effective team player who works well independently as well as with other team members
- Able to make responsible choices that uphold optimal customer service and support resident's best interests.
